Angles-sur-l'Anglin
Imposing château ruins sit atop a cliff overlooking the
Anglin river, with its beautiful flowers, this medieval village has everything
to seduce its visitors. Angles is one of France’s “prettiest villages”.
From the top of the cliffs, the ruins of the fortress,
constructed between the 11th & 15th centuries by the counts of Lusignan,
dominate the river. In the town above the river, the Roman St. Martin
church sits next to the 12th century St. Pierre chapel. On the other
side of the river is the St. Croix chapel with its 13th century doorway.
Nearby, under the shade of 'Witches Rock' is a magdalanian frieze carved
into the limestone. For the last 150 years, the village has been famous
for it’s 'days,' with professional and amateur lingerie makers
supplying the luxurious department stores of Paris.
